Walker
The City of Walker is located Northwest of Grand Rapids and was established in 1962 from Walker Township, which was organized in 1837. Walker is home to over 25,000 residents from the 2020 census over its 26 square miles. With a motto of “A Place to Live, Work and Grow,” it makes sense that they are known for things like the Grand River on the eastern side of the city and rolling farmland which is home to several Centennial Farms. In the early years it was also known for lumbering, farming and plaster mines. Today it is home to one of the most popular parks in the Grand Rapids area, Millenium Park which is not only the largest park in West Michigan but it is one of the nation’s largest urban parks consisting of 1,400 acres with a six acre beach, splashpad, boat rental, 18 miles of trails and six miles of frontage on the Grand River. School districts serving the City of Walker include Comstock Park Public Schools, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Grandville Public Schools, and Kenowa Hills Public Schools. Walker is also extremely close to Grand Valley State University, only 6 miles away.
